| Marie has been involved in dog training since a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy called Cindy joined her and husband John, a few weeks after their marriage. Being a 'horse person', it was a bit of a shock to discover that dogs didn't 'just know how to behave' and the penny dropped that it might be a good idea to join a class and learn how to train her properly. The rest as they say is history as the dog training bug can bite hard and fast! A second golden retriever called Toby joined the family within twelve months and he was something of a challenge, having worn out his welcome in two homes by the age of thirteen months! Marie, Toby and Cindy dabbled in Obedience Competition, having lots of fun doing the rounds of the shows. The third addition to the family Jodie, a German Shepherd bitch really changed history as it became apparent that the methods used at the dog club were not going to work with this extremely nervous and reactive dog. It is because of Jodie that Paws'n'Learn was born. It was so difficult to find the right sort of help for her but once Pandora's box was open, the thirst for knowledge to discover how to develop a closer and more sensitive relationship with our animal companions grew and grew. Help has come from many sources but the greatest encouragement and support to actually launch Paws'n'Learn came from David Summers BVMS;MRCVS and Debbie Summers VN (Hollycroft Veterinary Centre, Hinckley, Leics.), and David Appleby (Pet Behaviour Centre, Worcs.) For the past 14 years Tellington TTouch and TTEAM have played a major role in the direction that Marie & Paws'n'Learn have taken. Sarah Fisher established the UK TTouch/TTEAM Centre at Tilley Farm in Somerset because one of her greatest desires is to see these techniques made available to pet owners, trainers, groomers, veterinary staff and kennel staff for the benefit of animals in their care. Marie shares this dream and has worked as part of the team to achieve this end. Sarah and Marie joined forces to write "100 Ways to Train the Perfect Dog" which was published by David and Charles in November 2008 and are delighted that it has been well received at home in the UK in the USA, Canada and South Africa. The book has also been picked up for translation into four other languages. Their second publication "100 Ways to Solve Your Dog's Problems" was published in Autumn 2009. |
